One of the most emblematic beaches of Barcelona, located between the Gas breakwater and the Marina Street, directly touching the Olympic Port. Behind stands the wonderful Seaside Promenade (Passeig Marítim) that takes us from Port Vell to the Poblenou neighborhood. Preferred both by Barcelonans, especially by young people, and by foreign tourists, this beach has a high occupancy rate, above all on holidays.

The stretch of coast known today as Somorrostro Beach previously belonged to Barceloneta Beach. In November 2010, this section changed its name to pay homage to the old homonymous shantytown, demolished in 1966.

The beach has a very central location and very accessible means of public transport. In the porches that delimit the Somorrostro Beach, in front of the Hospital of the Sea (Hospital del Mar), we found the Beach Center, an information and environmental education equipment offering from March to September activities for all ages and also free loan of books, press and sports equipment.
